Zissis Kotionis, MULTIDOMES
Zissis Kotionis’ architecture exhibition "Multidomes", curated by Yorgos Tzirtzilakis, radically criticizes the greek housing model of polykatikia as well as the urban buildings’ model in general.
The architect, based on social critique regarding post war family housing, proposes alternative forms and structures of urban inhabitation. Under the influence of A. Negri’s political theory, contemporary metropolitan residents are considered to be «singularities» and the collective inhabitation of «singularities» form structures that compose «common» spaces. «Commons» in metropolis are not only traditional pubic spaces. Soil, air and infrastructure are also crucial for the reproduction of urban life. The nomadic metropolitan multitude, plethos, is located at «common» structures where possible cohabitation and multiple collectivity is combined with the possibility of growing both in soil and in common areas of building complexes. This way «Plethodome», a new building model for plethos (multitude), tests the strength of the ageing model of polykatikia.
The exhibition space transforms into an interactive architectural workshop of participation. Dominant wooden models, drawings and videos describe the inhabitants, «singularities», and present «Plethodomes», the proposals for a city of plethos in crisis: the one of Athens.
