In May 2011, Gavin Au had participated in the ARTHK11 exhibition at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. He then noticed the upcoming reclamation of the area through the curtain wall of the exhibition hall when came to his view the shrinking of Hong Kong's harbor. For your information, land in Hong Kong is very rare and expensive so reclamation is a way to create more space for new buildings. He returned back to the Convention and Exhibition Center in October 2011 to participate the Asia Art Fair 2011 and he stood at the same spot area and noticed that this part of the harbor was completely engulfed and soon or later it would be disappeared. So he had to save it indoor as soon as possible. He used tintype, an old photography method, to keep the "evidences" of the vanishing situation. He filled his frame with a taste of antique and nostalgic mood and color probably because Gavin Au would like to recall memories of the city's proud past.
