"GOD'S NAILS”, Alexandros Psychoulis' exhibition
“I do not speak of a God the imperfection of whom stems from the frankness and straightforwardness of the man who created Him; but of a God whose imperfection is among his crucial characteristics: a God trapped in his wisdom and power, able to mistake, unable to foresee the consequences of his own actions, a God who creates things that lead to horror.” - Solaris, Stanisław Lem
Alexandros Psychoulis’ new work, based on Solaris, a 1961 Polish science fiction novel by Stanisław Lem, is a shocking, critical interpretation of the contemporary Greek reality. Hundreds of meters of woven string occupy the three dimensions of space, shaping familiar and unfamiliar figures that remind us of human and nonhuman achievements. Psychoulis’ obsessive handicraft technique reconsiders ghost cities, mammals’ anatomy, cultivations and soil resting, establishing new areas of discourse and ontological reflections. “GOD’S NAILS” is the name of an imaginary, space-invading plant that alters and expands wherever human activity suspends and gazes future awkwardly.
