26th Biennale des Antiquaires
The 26th edition of the Biennale des Antiquaires will be held in the Grand Palais in Paris from 14th to 23rd September 2012. The annually event coincides with the re-opening of the lavishing and newly-refurbished Salon d'Honneur, an area within the Grand Palais. This year's Biennale is the biggest, hosting 150 of the world's most exclusive antique and art dealers as well as jewelers. The Syndicat National des Antiquaires (SNA) collaborated with haute couturier Karl Lagerfeld to create the decor for the 2012 Biennale des Antiquaires. The concept is called «Window shopping in Paris» and according to Lagerfeld his inspiration was the city of Paris and its shopping arcades but he mostly got inspired by Grand Palais and the universal exhibitions that took place in the early 20th century. «For me, the Grand Palais is the very heart of Paris, the idea of Paris and its universal side. It’s also a place I adore and where I have organized incredible fashion shows in the past. I wanted to underline the immensity and the splendour of the glass roof, which will be like a sky protecting the exceptional objects to be presented by antique dealers, galleries and jewellers.» stated Karl Lagerfeld.
Note that for the first time ever Bulgari and Chinese jeweller Wallace Chan participate in this event. A gala dinner will take place on wednesday 12 september 2012 and the next day there will be a VIP opening. For information about public opening hours and ticket sales visit the SNA website.
