Paper by Natalia Mela

Skoufa Gallery hosts from November 15th Natalia's Mela latest artworks in an exhibition under the title "Paper". It is a series of 35 sculptures made of colourful papers giving life to birds, goats, peacocks and other animals.

Natalia Mela was born in Athens (1923) and graduated from Athens School of Fine Arts in 1946. During her studies she attended the labs of Dimitriadis, Tombrou and Aparti. She participated in various solo and group exhibitions in Greece and worldwide. Benaki Museum in 2008 organised a retrospective exhibition for the artist and in March 2011 the Athens Academy committee gave her the Fine Arts Award.

Mela can be considered as an artist of the 30s generation since she was patronised from many of the great figures of that period. Her work combines Greek influences with the international modern experience, shaping a work deeply personal. Her world is poetic, mythological, erotic.

The exhibition ends on Tuesday December 11th 2012.
