1st Industrial Design Exhibition of the University of the Aegean
From June 29 to July 17 2013, the BOX (12 Dorilaiou Str, Mavili Sq, Athens) hosts the 1st Industrial Design retrospective exhibition of the Department of Product and Systems Design Engineering of the University of the Aegean with an opening ceremony taking place on 29th June.
While Greece is going through an economic crisis there are students who design the future and its products, raising awareness about the importance of a field that, despite being still unknown in Greece, offers growth prospects and offers us the opportunity to create the world that we envision. For the first time since its establishment, the Department of Product and Systems Design Engineering of the University of the Aegean, located in the island of Syros, organizes a retrospective exhibition of the Design Studios, in order to highlight the work taking place in industrially oriented Hermoupolis, capital of Syros. The exhibition will include a selection of third and fourth-year student projects, as well as Diploma industrial design projects.
In addition there will be a presentation of projects that were carried out in collaboration with Greek companies and NGO's, demonstrating the bridging efforts between Academia and the market. The designs presented, cover a wide range of mass production applications, varying from lemon squeezers, common house equipment and furniture to products housing digital technology and vehicles. In every case, the adopted design methodologies, place the user in the centre of the design process, with particular emphasis to innovation and technical integrity so that products can stand firmly in an increasingly competitive market.
During the exhibition there will be several happenings organized by student groups aiming to address the issues of modern design practice and education.
