Bas Van Raay is one of the designers we met via internet in 2013 and gave us the best of impression for his personality and ideas. To say the truth, we had asked Bas for information in order to make a post about his "under pressure" project. Unfortunately, the post was never published due to various reasons we can not explain right now. Though, we have been reading his news and projects and as an act of expiation, today we decided to refer to his Schenk carafe as recently he and Vij5 presented a glass series for the above mentioned product (DDW2014 and Interieur2014).

At this point we would like to thank Arjan van Raadshooven and Anieke Branderhorst for the images of the Schenk carafe glasses. The images are from the glass series presentation at the Dutch Design Week made in Vij5's workspace. Note that the Schenk glasses have not been officially photographed so we can say that we are the first to give you a sneak preview.

Schenk carafe (2011) was created by Bas Van Raay together with Vij5 and its name derives from the dutch word for "pour". The whole concept of this product created a totally different ritual to serving and pouring water. Bas Van Raay was inspired by the way the string is wound back on a kite so the bottle has specially placed handles. They look strange at first but once they are used, the act becomes instinctive: the position of the handles makes it possible to pour water out of the carafe very controlled and dosed by a simple tilt movement.

Schenk carafe is made by borosilicate glass (laboratory glass) with dimensions of 33cm height and 9cm diameter. Its volume is 1,8 liter. It's available from Vij5.
