ReMap 3
Eleni Panouklia, Materia Incognita IV, 2010, graphite on paper, 30x42cm
In its third edition this year's ReMap3, running from September 12th until October 30th 2011, will be the meeting point for over 250 artists, art historians and curators from all around the world. ReMap is an international contemporary art platform open and free to the public, which is held bi annually in Kerameikos-Metaxourgeio district in Athens, in tandem with the Athens Biennial. It is organized by ReMapKM, a not-for-profit organization with a goal to create an alternative platform for the production and experiencing of contemporary art within the urban context, to present an interactive environment within a cultural framework and to enhance Athens’s positioning in the international contemporary art scene.
ReMap3 hosts more than 50 exhibition and projects by artists and institutions from all over the world, some of them presenting their work for the first time in Greece which most of them will be housed in unutilized spaces or neoclassical and 1970s buildings, courtyards, vacant plots and even detached balconies. Among the art projects we found very interesting is the “Reach the sky” a collaboration between Vamiali’s gallery and Anneta Papadatou.
It is a site-specific street art project especially created for the open lot at 36 Leonidou street. An ad hoc construction will be built having as source of inspiration the city’s sky and point of departure the idea of the fenced space itself where the final result will be a surprise until the very last moment and will be completed little before the exhibition’s beginning. The participating well known graffiti artists (APSET, BOOHAHA, RTMone, SIVE), all very young with a fresh point of view, will work collaboratively and will question the limitations of their style using humor and creativity in an interactive approach within the environment itself. The final project will be flexible and in flux. The viewers will be able to see the exhibition during 24 hours.
ReMap 3 is under the aegis of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture & Tourism and the City of Athens, and is part of the former’s “Athens Every Week” programme. For more information about the programme and participants, visit the official website (see above).
