"Eudaimonia" by Kalos&Klio
Artistic duo Kalos&Klio are well-known for their kaleidoscopic patterns and "Eudaimonia" is a series of works that was firstly presented as an in situ installation at Macedonia Palace from 16th to 25th March 2007 (Thessaloniki) and at Athens Imperial Hotel from 25th to 29th April 2007, during UNFAIR ’07 art fair, organised by KAPPATOS GALLERY. Pornographic photos from the Internet was the raw material for the kaleidoscopic patterns that dress urban Bourgeois furnitures.
Eudaimonia's basic content axis has to do with the contradictory role of pornography in the internet. It's a criticism in the modern way of life, where the isolation, the adherence in a absolute materialism, built on the prototypes-stereotypes of publicity (sex-mania and familiarization with the violence), create a frame where the limits between public and private are indiscernable.
Morphologically, "Eudaimonia" has influences from the studies of M.C Escher on the patterns, the fractal geometry, as well as the Islamic art.
It flirts with the ideas of copy, pop art, the reflections the 60s, optical art, but also the 70s appropriation. "Eudaimonia" is a digital Baroque that transforms the cheap and outcast to high, the private to public, the virtual into real.
