Lampros Psirrakis at Zina Athanassiadou Gallery
Lampros Psirrakis presents his latest artworks in Zina Athanassiadou Gallery (5th P.P. Germanou Str, 546 22 Thessaloniki) running from 29th March 2013 until 25 April 2013 under the title Vexillologia.
Vexillologia from latin word vexillum, is the interest somebody can develop, or longing for studying the national emblems, of around 226 nation states. In terms of statistics, most of the flags, use red color: 172(Qatar’s is red brown), 120 choose blue till light azure, 109 yellow,103 green, 167 white color, 59 black, 4 grey, 9 orange until saffron for India, 3purple or pink,8 brown, basically for their figurative details.
Lampros Psyrrakis, decides on vexillologian color range, to raise the issue on stake, of geopolitical realignment, of global scale, counting in Johanes Itten commentary: "pure, primary colors have always, secular character of fundamental, radiant powers, meanwhile they convey material and festal atmosphere"*.
The visual language is abstract geometry with historical references in neoplasticism of Mondrian and VanDesbourg, the Russian suprematism of Malevich, the English Vorticism of Bomberg in 1913, simultaneous movement with the Italian futurism and French Orphism. After the WWII, American paradigms of Hard Edge and Post Painterly Abstraction turn up, such as the Shaped Canvases of Elsworth Kelly and Richard Tuttle.
Therefore, Geopolitical Exercises of Lampros Psyrrakis , consider the global anthropological history and its reflections in modern, postmodern, contemporary–alternative modern, history of art.
The black and white, table sculptures, hint on, out of Europe cultures of Parisian Quai de Branly and Musee Quimet, converse with absolute, bursting on wall constructions to underline that the artist’s function is to foretell the uncertain things to come.
Eventually and despite the epistemological methodology, Mr Lampros Psyrrakis , recalls the primordial sentimental force which in crucial historical moments, slits and sets up again, two or three colorful rags to signal the explosive formulation of a new kind of being.
